ABOUT FOUR THOSAND ISLANDS
Four thousand US islands, under the jurisdiction of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, border the Cambodian Mekong River in southern Laos. From the north to the south, it flows through the Mekong River in Laos. Near the old and Cambodian borders, there are about 50 kilometers of rivers that are relatively wide.
When the rainy season arrives, the widest place reaches 14 kilometers, the widest section of the waist of the Mekong River in Laos. In the dry season, the river will fall back, and there will be hundreds of small islands in this “wide waist”. If you count the small rafts and the sandbars, the number is over a thousand. The locals have called this area "four thousand US islands" with a little exaggeration.
